To The Manor Born is undoubtedly one of the greatest comedy series every produced by the BBC. First broadcast on 30th September 1979, the series ran for three series before coming to a close on 29th November 1981. The final episode was watched by a record breaking 24 million viewers which, at the time, was easily the biggest-ever audience for a single programme on British television.

Penelope Keith stars as the distinctly upper-class Audrey fforbes-Hamilton who is forced to sell her beloved home, Grantleigh Manor, when her husband dies leaving her with a mountain of debts. Grantleigh is brought by the nouveau-riche millionaire Richard De Vere who moves in with his mother, the formidable Mrs Polouvicka, and sets about transforming the fortunes of the Estate - much to the annoyance of the previous owner.
